SUICIDE NOTE NOT RECOGNISED

Mrs T was in an unhappy and abusive marriage for several years and one day, she just decided to end her life taking together her 2 children. She felt that if she was going to leave this world, she better bring her 2 children with her to leave her husband alone in this world after so much misery caused to her and her children.

She just set her car on fire and left behind a suicide note. In her suicide note, she stated that she wanted all her assets including her insurance claims, to be given to her brother. In addition, she also wrote that she was not giving anything to her husband.
In this case, the suicide note is merely a message without any legal recognition simply because there are no witnesses, appointment of executors or proper compliance with the Wills Act 1959. Hence, the instructions could not be carried out.
Unfortunately, this lady had died in vain because her objective could not be fulfilled. As our law provides us the right to write a will for proper distribution of our assets, a suicide note cannot and will not be recognised. Therefore, to protect your assets and loved ones, exercise your right by having a professional will drawn up for you. Then, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing that your wishes can come true. In this instance, life had been cruel to Mrs T. It is most unfortunate that no will was written up and even upon ending her life, her wishes could not be fulfilled.

These are facts of life. We must educate ourselves of the importance of will and proper estate planning.
